                                         "CONTRAINDICATIONS"

 A contraindication is a time/situation when not to apply equine massage therapy to the horse/pony.  

  •  If the temperature is raised
  • Raised pulse rate
  • Wounds less than 7 days old
  • Wound in primary healing stage ( seen as bleeding under the skin)
  • Disease affecting the Nervous system - Tetanus, Neauralgia
  • Arthritis/Rheumatism (must never recieve direct application of equine massage, however compensatory areas can recieve equine massage)
  • Colic
  • Pregnacy
  • Hernia
  • cramps
  • Lameness
  • Azoturia

Infectious/spreadable conditions such as.....................

  • Strangles
  • Poll evil
  • Fistulous withers
  • Tumours
  • Equine influenza
  • Herpes
  • Pneumonia

Working within my 'Duty of care' i must always note down and request that the horse be referred back to the Veterinary Surgeon before equine massage can be applied.
